Raw vocals and real moments from Lewis Capaldi
Written by Carly McCaskill
From the electric atmosphere up and down Blackweir Fields, there genuinely is no bad seat at a Lewis Capaldi gig. The way his comedic energy fills the show in between the songs filled with heavy lyrics and enticing melodies it really is not an artist to miss.
Opening the show was the amazing Tyler Ballgame and Jacob Alon complementing Capaldi’s style of music perfectly, the kind of music that you can feel in your soul even if it’s your first or 100th time listening, but also giving a fresh energy to get the crowd ready which they definitely achieved.
As stage lights started to shine into the crowd and the first note of Capaldi’s song ‘Hollywood’ a classic from his 2019 album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent filled the audience with that buzz of adrenaline you get at a gig that’s like no other.
It was then followed ‘Grace’ and ‘Heavenly Kind Of State Of Mind’, classics to anyone who has heard Capaldi’s music as a long-time listener or even someone who casually listens on the radio.
From getting the crowd involved and laughing to hugging and crying at the beautiful lyrics in his songs, Capaldi really does offer it all. He continued to play multiple songs from each album, like ’Bruises’ and ‘Before You Go’ from his 2019 debut album, and ‘Wish You The Best’ and ‘Pointless’ from his 2023 album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent.
He even including some covers of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ and Britney Spears’ ‘Everytime’, making everyone in the crowd feel included and able to sing along.
As Capaldi left the stage before his encore the crowd erupted in cheers and chants of his name and begging for one more song. As he came back on after a short time off, the entire audience’s energy shifted back in the best way. His closing song was ‘Someone You Loved’, one of his most iconic and memorable songs. He took a minute at the end of the song by stepping away from the microphone to let the crowd come together and sing to his guitar which was a beautiful moment.
The audience left still singing songs with the people who were sitting outside the venue without tickets. It’s truly these small moments and these fans who make a Capaldi show shine.
